Our History
We are very proud and honored to share our family culture and Ecuador's most famous craft; the noble and traditional art of Toquilla straw hat weaving, with hat enthusiasts from around the world.
All of our straw hats come from local artisans in Cuenca and the small village of Montecristi; internationally renowned for the high quality weaving of the Panama hats.
Montecristi has only a handful of master weavers, the creators of the finest straw hats in the world. Our Panama hats are made from toquilla straw.
Most people don't know that the Panama hat actually originated in Ecuador,not PANAMA; as the name suggests.
Each hat is unique and can take from one to six months for a true master weaver to make; adding to the Panama hats mystique and universal appeal.
The Panama hat remains at the forefront of fashion today worn by celebrities, writers, painters,and others all over the world.

Founded in 2010 in Toronto, Aborigen Handcrafts specializes in importing unique handcrafts and products exclusively from Ecuador.
Our Mission
Aborigen Handcrafts is a company that imports products with the sole purpose of seeking to highlight the crafts created in Ecuador. We also hope to bring our heritage and outline a good image and product quality in Canada, and all over the world.
Our Vision
During the next four years, we aspire to be the leaders of importation of toquilla hats and also offer an excellent product quality to the most demanding markets worldwide. We want to show the world that our abilities and products are one of a kind; and we promise to deliver nothing but the best.
